UPDATE: 1 man dead, 4 in custody after Surrey shooting

A vehicle fire in Surrey was reported shortly after shooting

Four men have been arrested and charged following a shooting in South Surrey Friday morning (June 7) that has killed one man.

Manvir Basram, 23, Sahib Basra, 20 and Harkirat Jhutty, 2, of Surrey and Keilon Francois, 20, of Ontario, were charged with first-degree murder on June 8.

According to a media release issued on Friday afternoon, a quick coordinated response of Surrey RCMP,  Air 1 and the Lower Mainland Integrated Emergency Response Team resulted in identification of the four suspects, who were taken into custody.

Surrey RCMP received the call of a shooting in the 900-block of 164 Street at 8:46 a.m. Friday (June 7).

Officers who attended found a 28-year-old man, who was declared dead at the scene by EHS (Emergency Health Services).

A short time later police received a report of a vehicle on fire in the 18500-block of McMillan Road in Surrey.

Investigators have identified the victim as Yuvraj Goya, 28, of Surrey.

"Although initial evidence suggests this was a targeted shooting, investigators are working to determine the reason that Mr. Goyal, a 28-year old community member with no history of police contact, was killed,"  said Sgt. Timothy Pierotti, spokesman for the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team in a news release Saturday (June 8).

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) is taking over the file and will be working in partnership with Surrey RCMP and the BC Coroners Service. IHIT will also be working with the Integrated Forensic Identification Service to establish whether the burnt vehicle was associated with the homicide.

"IHIT is in the process of transitioning the investigation from the Surrey RCMP, and are thankful for their excellent work," said Pierotti.

"We will continue to be in the area, processing the scene and canvassing for witnesses."

Of particular interest to investigators is any information on both incidents from those who have yet to speak to police, or anyone driving in the area of the shooting (between 8 a.m. and 9 a.m.) or the area of the vehicle fire (between 8 a.m. and 9:30 a.m.)

Individuals with information on either incident are asked to contact IHIT by calling 1-877-551-4448 or email ihitinfo@rcmp-grc.ca
