Ts’uubaa-asatx has dramatically expanded into motorized rentals at its waterfront Kaatza Adventures at Cowichan Lake this year.
Aaron Hamilton, Ts’uubaa-asatx’s operations manager, said the First Nation has recently purchased two 23-foot pontoons that can comfortably seat upwards of 10 people, four wave-runner seadoos, as well as fliteboards and related safety equipment.
“Additionally we will be refreshing our kayak and stand-up paddle board fleet as well,” he said.
“We have brought on Luc Petrak and some of his team from Dry Dock Marine to manage this exciting venture. Luc brings over 20 years of experience in this field and we are looking forward to seeing a lot of people renting our equipment. This is one of the many possible changes that are reshaping Ts’uubaa-asatx’s waterfront and we look forward to further enhancements and announcements over the coming months and years.”
The First Nation opened Kaatza Adventures, a rental company that deals in kayaks, paddle boards, paddle boats and other water craft, in 2017.
Ts’uubaa-asatx Chief Melanie Livingstone said that when the First Nation first launched Kaatza, it was always its intention to grow with the market and demand.
“Boat rentals were the first level of expansion, however COVID, economics, and other economic development projects took over and this was parked temporarily,” she said.
“During the past two to three years, the idea was always there and once a pro-forma and feasibility was complete, we made the decision to expand rapidly this year. We look forward to seeing everyone enjoy the rentals.”
