Canadian passengers will now be allowed to use their electronic devices – like laptops, cameras, iPads or tablets – during take-off and landing, provided their airlines have met required safety conditions.
"It'll ensure that Canadian operators can remain globally competitive," said Canadian Transport Minister Lisa Raitt, adding the United States and Europe currently offer the same service (or leniency) Canada is now pursuing.
Air Canada issued the following statement on Monday:
"Our customers have been telling us they want the option to use their (personal electronic devices) at all times on board our aircraft, both for working and entertainment.
"Air Canada, Air Canada Rouge and its Air Canada Express regional partners are finalizing measures to safely implement the new procedures."
