An 18-year-old had their vehicle impounded, was issued a 24-hour driving prohibition and could face charges after their car crashed into a hydro pole in Metchosin earlier this week.
Police received calls just before 7 a.m. on May 6 about a car driving erratically before it crashed into a hydro pole in Metchosin. West Shore RCMP on Wednesday, May 8 released a photo of the damaged black Chevrolet Monte Carlo as it was crashed into a splintered power pole in the 4200-block of Metchosin Road.
There were two people in the car at the time of the crash and a police said the 18-year-old driver showed signs of drug impairment. The driver provided a urine sample for analysis and drug-impaired driving charges are expected to be laid pending the results of that test.
“Both the driver and passenger of the vehicle suffered minor injuries and are lucky that they were not seriously injured. We want to thank the multiple callers who reported this to police right away,” West Shore RCMP media relations officer Cpl. Nancy Saggar said in a news release.
