3 people face weapons charge after gunfire incident in Saanich

Three people face weapons charges after shots were fired in Saanich the night of Aug. 26.

Saanich Police arrested multiple suspects after a firearm was discharged on Tuesday evening (Aug. 26).

Shortly before 10:30 p.m., Saanich police officers were called to the intersection of Shelbourne Street and Torquay Drive following reports a person in a vehicle had fired a handgun into the air after a brief interaction with another individual.

The suspect vehicle returned while officers were at the scene, according ot police. The driver and passengers were taken into custody without incident.

A loaded handgun was later recovered nearby.

As a result, David Andrew, Amrit Singh and Miguel Widmann are charged with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. As of Aug. 29, all three were in custody pending a bail hearing.

Detectives believe the incident was isolated and there is no ongoing threat to the public.
