Five members of the Canadian Armed Forces that are based in the Greater Victoria area have been appointed with the Order of Military Merit which aims to recognize exceptional service from members of the military.

The award, which is the second highest order administered by the Governor General, was presented at a ceremony at Rideau Hall in Ottawa on May 24.

Among the Capital Region recipients is Captain Peter Scott Robinson at CFB Esquimalt, CPO2 Leslie Biller of the Naval Tactical Operations Group, MWO Drew Russel Scott of the Real Property Operations Unit, Jean Julienne Tsannie of the Canadian Rangers, and CPO1 Steven Joseph Wist of the Naval Training Development Centre.

“You have acted with exceptional merit, and embraced the values the military stands for. You serve with integrity and courage. Your actions display loyalty and excellence,” said Governor General Mary Simon in her speech at the ceremony.

The Order of Military Merit was created in 1972 to replace a grouping within the order of Canada.
