A young Victoria soccer player was given the "opportunity of a lifetime" when he was invited to participate in a training camp in Spain with coaches who have trained some of the best player in the world.
Adam Liam, 9, got in trouble playing soccer with older kids at school so he started playing with the Gorge Soccer Association in April 2023, which had him hooked.
Since then, he has played with the Saanich Fusion Football Club and in July, and he participated in the Real Madrid Foundation's soccer camp at Camosun College where he and a few others got an invite to Spain for another training camp with the team in the Spring.
The Spanish soccer club has seen the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Luka Modrić within its ranks, and has been one of the top teams in the La Liga soccer division for decades.
"I trained a lot, stayed focused the whole time and gave it 100 per cent," said Liam.
His family said the opportunity is a bit of a financial challenge, and they need to pay $10,000 before December to cover the expenses for travel, accommodation, and the camp, but they say they are confident he will be able to go to the camp and make his dreams come true. They have since set up a crowdfunding campaign to help with the costs.
"He's very passionate about it; his dream is to become a professional soccer player," said Liam's dad, Yaniv. "A lot of coaches told us he's got the potential and as parents, of course, I am going to support my son's dream."
