Some of Vancouver Island's top developers will be recognized for their work as the Victoria Residential Builders Association (VRBA) has announced the finalists for the 2025 Construction Achievements and Renovations of Excellence (CARE) Awards of Vancouver Island.

“Congratulations to these CARE Awards finalists representing Canada’s leaders in west coast home design and construction,” noted Russ Barry, chair of the 2025 CARE Awards, in a news release. “They have again raised the bar in building excellence for both new homes and renovations.”

Among some of Greater Victoria's biggest contenders is Victoria-based Gary Sandhu Developments, which has three projects nominated for six categories, including Best Custom Millwork under $100,000, Best Single Family Detached Custom Home under $1 million and Best New Home Design.

Oak Bay-based Green Island Builders was nominated in six categories for three projects, along with the Green Builder of the Year award.

Java Designs, based in Langford, had two projects – the Forest Haven and the Peak + Pine homes – nominated for 11 awards, including Best Interior for Homes between $1 million and $2 million. They were also nominated for Project of the Year along with nine other companies.

In some of the other categories, Greater Victoria companies will battle it out for Large Volume Green Builder of the Year – which is between Victoria's Abstract Developments, Langford's Pacific Viking Group Properties, and Langford's Verity Construction, with the latter two also fighting for Best Condo or Mixed-Use Development. Abstract is also nominated for Best Multi-Family Townhouse Project for its Greyson Townhomes.

Finalists were selected by a panel of industry professionals using criteria such as architectural design, quality workmanship, creative use of space, and energy efficiency. The public is also invited to vote online for the winners of the annual People’s Choice Award at careawards.ca, with the finalists’ projects being on display at Hillside Centre from Sept. 1 to 14.

Gold winners will be announced Friday, Oct. 3 at the CARE Awards gala at the Empress Hotel.
