For the second consecutive day, drivers without reservations face waits at BC Ferries for sailings between Tsawwassen and Swartz Bay.

The first ferry with free space – estimated at 15 per cent – heading off the south Island is 1 p.m. out of North Saanich, as of 7 a.m. on Feb. 25.

The 3 p.m. showed 10 per cent deck space remaining, with the 5 p.m. at 14 per cent, the 7 at 18 per cent and the 9 p.m. the most promising at 59 per cent.

The first ferry with deck space from Tsawwassen to Swartz Bay is the 3 p.m. with 16 per cent available. Later ferries aren’t looking any better with 10 per cent space remaining on the 5, the 7 p.m. at 19 per cent, and the last ferry at 9 p.m. at 23 per cent.

Windy weather and safety concerns delayed and cancelled sailings late Monday between Swartz Bay and Tsawwassen as well as to the Southern Gulf Islands.

The day started similarly Monday morning with a backlog of Sunday traffic filling the ferries fast.

Drivers without a reservation travelling to Tsawwassen were greeted with lengthy waits, with the 3 p.m. being the first ferry with available deck space early Monday morning.
