Cyclist injured in collision on Pat Bay Highway

Police say the cyclist, a man in his 60s suffered some serious injury

Traffic is at a standstill after a cyclist was struck by a truck on the intersection of Pat Bay Highway and Island View Road.

Multiple first responders have been called to Pat Bay Highway to attend to a cyclist injured by a dump truck in Saanichton on Tuesday (Nov. 12).

Central Saanich Police Service responded to a motor vehicle incident at 12:18 p.m. at the intersection of Pat Bay Highway and Island View Road. According to their initial investigation, a large dump style truck had struck a man on his bicycle as the two turned west onto Island View Road.

Witnesses say the cyclist's lower leg was wedged under the truck. Central Saanich Fire Department helped remove the cyclist from under the vehicle and was taken to Victoria General Hospital. The male cyclist in his 60s remains in serious condition.

Traffic analysts were also on the scene and are assisting police with their investigation.
