A driver faces vehicle impound and fines after Central Saanich police stopped them going 161 km/hr in a posted 90 zone Monday (Aug. 12) morning.

“Almost 70 km over the limit is unacceptable. A ticket for excessive speed was issued, and the vehicle was impounded,” the police service said on social media.

Under the Motor Vehicle Act, drivers going more than 40 km/h over the posted speed limit face a $368 ticket, three penalty points on their driving record and a mandatory seven-day impound. Drivers going more than 60 km/h faster than the speed limit face a fine of $483 and three penalty points.
