A quick-thinking officer nabbed a vandalism suspect who threw a book at them outside the VicPD headquarters on Tuesday.
Three police vehicles were vandalized March 18, two of which were parked at the station. A sergeant heard a loud crash and located the suspect, who resisted by throwing a book at the officer, VicPD said on social media.
A suspect has been charged and is being held in custody pending a bail hearing.
An investigation into the vandalism of the third vehicle on Menzies Street is ongoing.
These incidents are reflective of the costs incurred regularly while policing the city, the department said.
The damages come after two other VicPD vehicles were rendered inoperable earlier in March.
On March 6 just after 10:30 p.m., VicPD received a report of a person causing a disturbance inside a building in the 900-block of Pandora Avenue. There, an individual hit the parked VicPD vehicle with a pylon “causing significant damage and making the vehicle inoperable,” the department said at the time.
In that case, a suspect faced a charge of mischief over $5,000 and a charge of mischief by wilfully obstructing, interrupting or interfering with the lawful use, enjoyment or operation of a property.
On March 8, officers were called to the 100-block of Harbour Road after a report of a man stealing paintings and chairs. The suspect was placed inside a VicPD vehicle, where he proceeded to “kick the door, causing significant damage.”
