Sooke RCMP is investigating a crash that claimed the life of a motorcyclist on Sunday afternoon.

Sooke RCMP responded to the collision between the motorcycle and a pickup truck in the 11000 block of West Coast Road in Jordan River, said RCMP Cpl. Alex Berube, media relations officer for Island District.

Initial evidence showed the pickup truck driver was travelling westbound on West Coast Road and tried to make a left turn into a campground when the motorcyclist, who was travelling behind, attempted to pass into the oncoming lane.

“As a result, the motorcyclist collided with the pickup truck,” Berube said. “The 56-year-old motorcyclist unfortunately succumbed to his injuries at the scene.”

The B.C. Coroners Service is investigating.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 250-642-5241.
