The Capital Regional District (CRD) and the Capital Regional Hospital District (CRHD) are asking the public to provide feedback on their preliminary 2025 financial plans.
"Comments received through the budget feedback process will be shared with the [CRD board of directors] for consideration as part of final review," the CRD said in a news release, adding that the board of directors will vote to approve the plans in March 2025. "Approving the provisional financial plans enables the organization to effectively deploy resources needed to maintain core service delivery and advance capital projects required to support development and population growth across the region."
The plans consist of an operating budget, which will pay for a range of regional, sub-regional and local services for 440,000 people, and a capital budget, which will fund new and enhanced infrastructure projects.
The preliminary plans' operating budgets amount to $411 million and $33 million for the CRD and the CRHD, respectively. They also set allot $238 million and $34 million for the CRD and the CRHD to invest in infrastructure projects, respectively.
The CRD creates a new financial plan annually, which outlines the money it requires to carry out initiatives, services and capital programs, while adjusting to current economic conditions.
