Cyclists ride free on BC Transit during spring GoByBike Week, May 31 to June 6.
The free event encourages everyone to try cycling for the week. It aims to introduce people to the joy of riding a bike, inspire them to ride daily, year-round, and build on improved physical and mental health.
A provincial initiative, locally, the Greater Victoria cycling advocacy group Capital Bike organizes celebration stations along popular cycling routes, runs challenges, and offers hundreds of prizes.
Getting around on smaller wheels like scooters and roller blades counts, as does carpooling or taking the bus partway.
Plus, transit is free for cyclists during the week.
To qualify, customers must use the bus bike racks or show their bike helmet when boarding the bus. All conventional BC Transit buses are equipped with bike racks on the front, making it easier for cyclists when travelling longer distances or when the weather changes. Bike space is limited and cannot be guaranteed.

So far, nearly 1,500 riders on 600 teams are registered for GoByBike Week in Greater Victoria. Of those, more than 200 are self-proclaimed new riders.
It starts May 31 with a handful of bike infrastructure celebration rides leaving Langford, Colwood, Esquimalt, Oak Bay, Saanich and Victoria – culminating at the first celebration station at the north end of Selkirk Trestle from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
