A single-vehicle crash on Cook Street has southbound lanes closed after power lines were impacted Tuesday (Aug. 15).

VicPD asked drivers to avoid the area between Kings Road and Hillside Avenue, fully closing the southbound lanes shortly before 1 p.m. after a southbound driver veered off the street into a power pole.

According to Const. Brent Keddell, “the driver was distracted and veared off the street.”

The crash caused significant damage to the pole and the truck.

BC Hydro is monitoring the pole and waiting for another vehicle to help secure the pole before crews remove the truck.

”We have everything under control, there are no concerns right now,” said Keddell regarding the power lines.

Police at the scene said the driver was sent to the Royal Jubilee Hospital for a check-up with minor injuries.

The southbound side of the road will continue to be shut down for an extended period of time while the pole is replaced. Police advise drivers to take another route.

As of 4:30 p.m., the Cook Street southbound lane has not reopened to drivers.
