The District of Saanich has once again been recognized as one of the best employers in B.C. This is the third year in a row that the district has been honoured as one of the province's top employers.
The designation recognizes the top 100 British Columbia employers that lead their industries in offering exceptional places to work, recognizing employers leading their industries and creating exceptional workplaces.
“The recognition confirms that Saanich is a place where talented and passionate individuals want to build their careers while making a meaningful difference in our diverse community,” the district stated in a press release.
The district highlighted their alternative work options, competitive benefits, pension plan and support for new parents along with professional development plans as factors contributing to their recognition.
“We value a safe, inclusive, and respectful workplace where employees can continue to grow, learn, and foster a workplace they’re excited to be a part of,” said chief administrative officer Brent Reems.
“This recognition is a testament to the incredible people who work for the district and I’m proud of our collective commitment to meeting and exceeding the needs of our community.”
Saanich employs about 1,700 people in over 375 unique positions across 11 locations, calling itself a “people-first organization” that takes pride in providing high levels of service.
Employers are evaluated for the award based on eight unique criteria: workplace; work atmosphere and social; health; financial and family benefits; vacation and time off; employee communications; performance management; training and skills development; and community involvement.
Camosun College was also recognized as one of the top employers.
“We are proud to be recognized as one of the top employers in B.C.,” Dr. Lane Trotter, president of Camosun College, said in a release. “Camosun is comprised of incredible employees who demonstrate dedication and support to students, the college community and each other.”
Camosun has approximately 1,400 employees including faculty, support staff and administration.
Joining the list of top employers is the Saanich Police Department.
Chief Const. Dean Duthie said it is an honour for the department to receive this designation for the fourth consecutive year.
"It recognizes the commitment and efforts of all SPD staff as we collectively strive to keep growing and making meaningful improvements that focus on opportunities, relationships, and organizational health,” said Duthie in a news release. “Sustaining a healthy, supportive, and inclusive culture that encourages staff to pursue their goals and fulfil their purpose, as we keep Saanich safe, is what we are all about.
