Drug poisoning advisory issued for Greater Victoria

A warning has been put out for the Capital Region amid a recent increase in overdoses.

Island Health issued a drug poisoning and overdose advisory for Greater Victoria, the West Shore and Sooke on Thursday (April 25).

The health authority said friends, family and community members using opioids and stimulants face increased from injection and inhalation of drugs.

If someone overdoses, Island Health advises the public to call 911, stay with the person, give them naloxone and give one breath every five seconds.

Community members can get their drugs checked at Substance at 1802 Cook St. and local overdose prevention services are available at the Harbour (941 Pandora Ave.), Rock Bay Landing (535 Ellice St.) and at 713 Johnson St.
