A death at Motor City Mechanics in Victoria West on Monday (Jan. 29) was an employee who died from “natural causes,” according to a staff member.

Along with police, several personnel in white suits were seen behind a yellow police tape at the scene, sparking speculation about what happened.

A staff member who answered the phone at Motor City on Tuesday morning said he had visited the police station earlier in the day and was told the person “died of natural causes.”

The Victoria Police Department released a statement on Tuesday afternoon saying the death was “non-suspicious.”

The statement says police found a deceased male inside the building and that Forensic Identification Services attended the scene along with Major Crimes detectives, determining that no criminality was involved.

The staff member from Motor City who spoke about the incident did not want to disclose his name or any other information.

“I’m still in shock, I lost a really good friend,” he said.

The B.C. Coroners Service did not respond to requests for information.
