Just after 11 a.m. on June 25, Langford Fire Rescue responded to multiple calls about an explosion at a construction site off Marble Place in the Bear Mountain neighbourhood, north of Langford.
Chris Aubrey, the Langford fire chief, said a scheduled blast at the construction site was bigger than expected, and left two workers with minor injuries, though they were never taken to a hospital.
"We isolated the area, made sure we worked with the [construction] company, made sure that everything was safe and there was no risk to the public and then we left it with the RCMP to follow-up," said Aubrey
Both the RCMP and Worksafe B.C. are investigating the cause of the incident.
"It is near a forested area, so we were concerned that potentially some of the materials from the blast may have gone too far into the forest, but that didn't appear to be the case either," he said.
