Camosun College is celebrating Pi Day with a pie-eating contest at its Interurban campus on March 13 at noon.
Faculty will serve up pies made by culinary arts students to mark the mathematical constant Pi (3.14). The event, organized by the School of Arts and Science, aims to bring a fun approach to math while showcasing student-made baked goods.
Patrick Montgomery, chair of Camosun’s mathematics and statistics department, highlighted the lighthearted nature of the event.
“While mathematicians are certainly keen to understand the importance of the number Pi, we’re more interested in how quickly students can devour a slice of pie on Pi Day,” said Montgomery.
Culinary arts chair chef David Lang noted that students have been preparing for the event and encouraged attendees to take part.
