Floyd's Diner has officially closed its location at 6719 W. Saanich Rd. on July 29, marking the end of its tenure in Brentwood Bay.
Director of operations, Michelle Boyd, told Peninsula News Review the closure involves a transfer of building lease to new owners, but "Floyd's as a business was not sold."
Floyd's Diner had taken over the location, formerly Sassy's Family Restaurant, in September 2022.
In March 2024, the diner chain announced it was seeking a buyer for the Brentwood Bay building lease for $2,100,000.
Karan Mendiratta, the new leaseholder, announced his purchase through a Facebook post in local community groups, expressing his plans to open a family-style restaurant serving breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Mendiratta anticipates beginning painting work on Friday, Aug. 1, with hopes of opening the new establishment soon.
The announcement on July 29, has been met with positive responses from the community, with many expressing excitement about having a new family restaurant in the area.
One commenter wrote, "Good luck, it's a tough business, but the customer base out here is very loyal. If you try your best, they can be very supportive."
Mendiratta's post also announced they are currently hiring servers, cooks, line cooks, lead cooks and individuals with managerial or supervisory experience.
"We are currently working on the restaurant part and starting some small renovations in the coming days," he stated.
