Former Esquimalt council member Meagan Brame is eyeing another term with the township as she announces her candidacy in the upcoming byelection for an Esquimalt council seat.

Brame, who previously served 14 years on the Esquimalt council, is also a local business owner and former early childhood educator. She led the campaign to save the Archie Browning Sports Centre when the council at the time was planning to demolish it without any public consultation.

“Since stepping away, many residents and community leaders have encouraged me to run again, saying they missed my voice on council,” said Brame in a news release. “I’m proud of the work I was part of – whether it was supporting local businesses through the chamber of commerce, advocating for arts and culture on the CRD Arts Committee, or helping organize community celebrations like the Celebration of Lights and Buccaneer Days.”

She says her experience in governance, budgeting, and public policy means she’s ready to step in and serve on day one.

"Esquimalt is growing, and with that growth comes the need to ensure our infrastructure keeps pace. We must focus on balanced development, smart infrastructure investment, and a vibrant, connected community. I’ve always been someone who listens, shows up, and finds solutions. I’m ready to do that again for Esquimalt,” she noted in the release.

She also ran in the 2024 B.C. Election for B.C. United before dropping out following the announcement that the party suspended its campaign.

The 2025 Esquimalt byelection general voting day is scheduled for Saturday, April 5, with two advance voting days – March 26 and April 2 – and mail ballots adding additional voting opportunities.

Anyone interested in running can obtain information on the requirements and procedures for making nominations including nomination documents from the Esquimalt Municipal Hall, 1229 Esquimalt Rd., during regular office hours until the close of the nomination period at 4 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 28. Packages can also be requested by email at elections@esquimalt.ca.
