There will be changes to single ride, Day Pass and handyDART fares effective April 1.

Riders in Greater Victoria can expect changes to select bus fares starting April 1.

The adjustments, announced March 19 by BC Transit and the Victoria Regional Transit Commission, are part of a larger strategy to support improvements and expansion of transit services in the region.

The price of a single ride will increase from $2.50 to $3, while the DayPASS will now cost  $6 – a dollar more from the previous price.

HandyDART riders who use sheets of 10 Single Ride tickets will pay an additional $5, bringing the total cost to $30.

The concession 30-Day Pass ($45) and the adult 30-Day Pass ($85), along with all other specialty passes, will remain unchanged.

The adjusted fares will be consistent across all payment methods and retail outlets.

BC Transit advises riders using the Umo app or reloadable Umo card to ensure sufficient funds are available to cover the new single-ride fare. Passengers using Umo will still benefit from automatic fare capping, with their fare converting to a DayPASS after the second Cash Balance payment of the day.

According to the transit company, these fare adjustments are the result of a comprehensive fare review completed in 2024, which included public engagement. This marks the first formal fare change since 2010.

"The cost of operating transit has increased, as has the demand for service with an ever-growing population," BC Transit stated. "This fare increase will support BC Transit’s ability to improve and expand on service in the region in the coming years."

The Victoria Regional Transit Commission approved the price increases for select fares on both fixed-route and handyDART services.
