Eight Greater Victoria organizations are receiving provincial funding to support projects aimed at reducing racism and promoting multiculturalism.

Victoria-Swan Lake MLA Nina Krieger said the eight $5,000 grants will help local groups foster education, awareness, and inclusion.

The grants come through B.C.’s Multiculturalism and Anti-Racism program, which is distributing $300,000 to 60 organizations across the province this year.

Greater Victoria recipients include the Association of Ghanaians in Victoria, the Oasis Society, Bayanihan Cultural and Housing Society, Vancouver Island Caribbean Hub, British Columbia Black History Awareness Society, Victoria Immigrant and Refugee Centre Society, St. Bakhita Anakdiar Peace Foundation, and Theatre SKAM.

The funding supports grassroots efforts to combat systemic racism, prevent hate incidents, and build intercultural understanding.

“Everyone should feel welcome and cared for in their community, regardless of their background or identity,” said Krieger.
