Habitat for Humanity Victoria’s next affordable housing complex – Ferguson Place in Gordon Head – is in the hands of the District of Saanich for planning approvals.

The 14-home townhouse project is an example of “missing middle” housing, according to Habitat, which builds safe affordable houses that are sold to qualifying partner families and financed with affordable mortgages.

“With the current housing crisis continuing unabated, we’re doing our part to help families,” CEO Scott Dutchak said in a news release.

“This project is the largest we have undertaken so far, but it doesn’t feel ambitious. It feels right-sized for the generosity of this community in a time of crisis.”

Of the homes, 13 would be family-sized with three bedrooms; the other would be an accessible one-bedroom. The Gordon Head neighbourhood is ideally located close to schools, recreation, transit, and green space.

With support for fast planning approvals for non-profits, Habitat Victoria anticipates final reading of its rezoning application and release of the building permits this year. Construction is expected to start in early 2025 with families moving in by 2027.
