'There’s no more urgent topic in Oak Bay right now than determining the best way to provide ... more diverse and affordable housing our community both wants and needs,' says the Community Association of Oak Bay.

The Community Association of Oak Bay (CAOB) is hosting a public forum on ways to build more diverse and affordable housing in the district.

The event, slated for March 5 at the Monterey Centre’s Bamboo Room, will feature a presentation from Patricia Dijak, the chair of COAB’s working group on housing and the environment.

"We need to work collaboratively to achieve our common goals around more diverse and affordable housing options,” Dijak said in a news release. “This will be an opportunity for community members to share ideas and contribute to shaping the future of housing ... in Oak Bay.”

A question and answer period will follow Dijak’s presentation, which will also touch on ways to develop more housing that enhances the district's natural assets, promotes community health and livability, supports the tourism economy and provides residents a meaningful role in shaping the neighbourhoods they live in.

"There’s no more urgent topic in Oak Bay right now than determining the best way to provide ... more diverse and affordable housing our community both wants and needs," the CAOB said in the same release. "Dijak will emphasize how close collaboration between the provincial and municipal levels of government, and the strong and active engagement of Oak Bay residents, is needed to build more affordable housing."

This will be the second talk the COAB has hosted. Last year, a talk with Oak Bay Mayor Kevin Murdoch and B.C. Minister of Housing Ravi Kahlon drew almost 160 people.
