Island Health has issued a drug poisoning overdose advisory for the Greater Victoria area and West Shore.
Overdoses are increasing in the south Island region, and “friends, family and community members using opioids and stimulants face increased risk from injection and inhalation,” according to an Island Health post Wednesday (March 20) on Twitter.
For safer drug use, they recommend visiting a local overdose prevention service, not mixing substances, carrying naloxone, staggering use with a friend and users should get their drugs checked.
If using alone, call the National Overdose Response Service at 1-888-688-6677. For more information on supervised consumption sites and drug-checking services, visit islandhealth.ca.
