Banfield Park is under a beach advisory with Island Health listing sewage discharge as a concern.

In a time of blue-green algae and enterococci, a popular Victoria swim dock joins the plethora of swimming holes under beach advisories – this one blamed on sewage discharge.

Island Health does beach sampling mid-May through the Labour Day weekend and recommends beach advisories where there is indication of elevated bacterial levels in the water or other potential contaminants that increases the risk of illness to the public.

Banfield Park made the list July 30 with sewage discharge listed as the reason. The city confirmed there was a leak in the Gorge Waterway and swimmers were advised and signage went up Wednesday afternoon.

Other advisories remain in place for Langford Lake (Leigh Road), Esquimalt Lagoon, Thetis Lake Beach, Glen Lake Park (Glen View), Prior Lake, Elk Lake, Ross Bay Beach and Beaver Lake.
