Finding parking downtown Victoria just got easier.

The city has added new software that will add the number of available spaces, in real-time, at Victoria’s five parkades.

Using motion sensor technology, the software counts the number of vehicles entering and exiting parkades, then shares the number of open parking spaces online at victoria.ca/findparkadespaces.

This new software will also provide the number of accessible and one-hour free parking spaces in the city parkades.

The city’s director of business and community relations Kerri Moore said this new technology has arrived just as parking demands begin to increase due to the holiday shopping season.

“With real-time parking space availability, the stress of trying to find a parking space is eliminated, so people can save time and energy during their visit downtown,” said Moore.

Victoria is one of several Canadian cities to adopt the new technology, which also helps to reduce idling and fuel consumption, in addition to reducing driving distractions and frustration.
