From a flick about a giant ape to a musical comedy featuring the King of Rock and Roll, fans of old movies will find plenty to enjoy at this year’s Free-B Film Festival.
Organized by the Victoria Film Festival (VFF), the event series offers six free, outdoor flicks at Beacon Hill Park’s Cameron Bandshell in August.
“It really is the coolest summer tradition in Victoria and we’re so pleased to have created an event that appeals to such a broad audience,” Kathy Kay, VFF's director, told the Victoria News in 2019.
Screenings, which typically draw in hundreds of viewers, take place Fridays and Saturdays from Aug. 8 to 23. All movies start at 9 p.m. – rain or shine.
“From the very beginning, Free-B was all about creating a playful line-up,” Kay said. “For us, it’s a favourite event at VFF and one of our longest-running, second only to the film fest in February.”
Here are the pictures set to hit the Bandshell's screen:
- Friday, Aug. 8: Viva Las Vegas (1964)
- Saturday, Aug. 9: Scooby Doo: Monsters Unleashed (2004)
- Friday, Aug. 15: House on Haunted Hill (1959)
- Saturday, Aug. 16: Matilda (1996)
- Friday, Aug. 22: King Kong vs. Godzilla (1962)
