The West Shore RCMP is asking residents to “remain vigilant” after a woman was sexually assaulted in a Langford apartment stairwell late Monday (July 22) night.

The woman was injured and has received medical care after the attack at 2763 Spencer Rd., according to an RCMP news release.

“As police do not know who the suspect is we are advising the occupants of the building and the public in the area to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to police immediately,” media relations officer Cpl. Nancy Saggar said in a news release.

The department’s Special Victims Unit is investigating and officers have canvassed the apartment and surrounding area for witnesses and video surveillance.

The suspect is described as a man, 5’7” to 5’9” and 20 to 30 years old, with light-coloured skin. He was wearing a black hoodie with the hood up, and black pants.

Police are asking anyone with home video surveillance or dash camera footage within a two-block radius of the building to contact West Shore RCMP at 250-474-2264.  Anyone with information is asked to call the detachment or report anonymously through Crime Stoppers online or by calling 1-800-222-8477.
Police say further details of the crime are not being released at this time.
