A stretch of the Malahat will undergo repaving work in the evenings and overnight until mid-October.

Resurfacing work on a five-kilometre stretch of the Malahat will begin on Sunday (Sept. 15) and could result in delays for those travelling on the highway at night.

The Ministry of Transportation said the work between the summit viewpoint and Mill Bay Road will only occur during the evenings and overnight until mid-October. The repaving work periods will run weekly starting at 8 p.m. on Sundays until 5 a.m. on Thursdays.

Narrower sections of the highway will be reduced to single-lane alternating traffic between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. in the construction zone. The ministry said the resulting delays are expected to last about 20 minutes.

"To minimize disruption, drivers are encouraged to plan ahead and allow for extra time when possible, or travel outside of the construction times," the transportation ministry said.

"To keep the busy mountainous route safer for all travellers, people are reminded to obey all signs and traffic-management personnel in the area."
