Man charged after Saanich police find weapons in vehicle

A rifle, brass knuckles, and ammunition were found after officers conducted a traffic stop

A 30-year-old Greater Victoria man has been arrested on eight counts due to a vehicle search where police discovered a rifle, weapons and ammunition.

Saanich Police conducted a traffic stop in the 2300 block of Irma Street and due to passenger Joshua Logan exhibiting suspicious behaviour and officers observing a shell casing on the dashboard of the vehicle, he was arrested.

When police searched the vehicle the accused reportedly had a GSG-15 .22 LR rifle with a loaded magazine, an additional loaded magazine, 200 plus rounds of loose ammunition and two pairs of brass knuckles.

Logan has been charged with the following:

•Transport a firearm in a manner contrary to regulation

•Carry or possess a weapon

•Possess prohibited restricted, or non-restricted firearm with a license

•Possess prohibited restricted, or non-restricted firearm with a license

•Occupy a vehicle knowing there was a prohibited, restricted, or non-restricted firearm

•Possess a loaded prohibited, restricted without being the holder of an authorization or license

•Possess a prohibited weapon twice

“This was really impressive work by our patrol officers and an example of our diligence in keeping the community safe,” stated Inspector Damian Kowalewich. “There is no practical need for these weapons to be in our community and we are glad to have removed than from the public space.”
