Man charged after three people allegedly assaulted in downtown Victoria

A man faces multiple charges after police said three people were assaulted in Victoria on Monday night (Sept. 9). 

Police said the incidents, which allegedly included one woman hitting her head on the sidewalk after she got pushed over a bench, resulted in one person being taken to the hospital with non-life-threating injuries. 

VicPD received calls about a man trying to fight people on Government Street around 9:15 p.m. Witnesses said the man was yelling, swearing and pushing people, police said on Tuesday. 

The man was arrested in Waddington Alley after officers arrived at the scene and located him. Victoria police said none of the victims knew the man, who faces two counts of assault and an additional charge of assault causing bodily harm. 

The suspect remains in custody ahead of a court appearance.
