Sooke residents will have the chance to learn about a new Highway 14 improvement project next week.

A public information session will be held Wednesday, Jan. 29 to provide details about the Highway 14 Idlemore Intersection Improvement Project.

Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure staff will be in attendance to present a design overview and other project details. The project aims to improve safety and ease traffic flow for drivers, pedestrians, cyclists, and other road users. Ministry staff will also be available to answer questions.

“The project will also provide better access to Saseenos Elementary School and support economic development opportunities for T’Sou-ke First Nation,” the ministry said in a press release.

The initiative is one of several current and upcoming projects in the District of Sooke. Another project, the Little River Crossing and multi-use trail, has just broken ground and is expected to be completed this fall.

To help reduce congestion, the district is also looking to improve transit options, said Christina Moog, the district’s manager of communications and community relations.

“Better transit options are key to reducing congestion, and we’re advocating for more frequent and reliable routes to help make public transit a more practical choice for residents,” Moog said.

More information on transportation and traffic projects in Sooke is available on the district’s Transportation Master Planning Projects page.

The Idlemore Improvement Project information session will be held Wednesday, Jan. 29, from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Saseenos Elementary School gymnasium at 6066 Sooke Rd.
