Metchosin family looking for $5K bear sculpture stolen on Christmas

The seven-foot-tall sculpture was taken from the Metchosin property on Christmas Day

A Christmas miracle is the opposite of how the Rimmer family would describe how their Dec. 25 went.

A wooden bear sculpture worth over $5,000 was stolen from their property in Metchosin.

“I’m hoping they bring it back, no questions asked,” said Rod Rimmer. “It has sentimental value, too.”

The around seven-foot-tall bear was displayed on Rimmer’s property right by the wooden entrance to his home, as seen in the picture attached to this story. After the bear was taken off the property, Rimmer’s daughter Dallas made a Facebook post asking if anyone had seen the valuable sculpture.

“Christmas afternoon, somebody decided to steal the big carved bear behind the truck,” read the post. “So sad to come out to Christmas Day. If anyone has cameras in the area, could you please check them for a truck with a piece of bear sticking out?”

Rimmer noted he got the bear in 1989, with many of his family and friends having fond memories of it.

“Thousands of people have got pictures of it,” said Rimmer.

He notes that they’re two little cub sculptures that aren’t complete with the big bear.

“There’s a couple of cub bears climbing up, there was a couple of cub bears down by the bottom by the big bear, and there was a couple of cub bears climbing up the log fence and log gateway,” said Rimmer. “They didn’t take the ones (the cubs) that were bolted right to the logs on the ground.”

Ultimately, Rimmer said, “I just want it back.”
