Community stakeholders and local politicians gathered at the corner of Shelbourne Street and McRae Avenue to celebrate a new development that will add 87 new homes in Saanich being built by Abstract Developments.

The six-storey development broke ground on Wednesday (June 5) and it will offer bike parking, two levels of underground parking and a wide range of unit prices for two-bedroom, one-bedroom, and junior suites.

“Building this, there’s a lot of economic development that goes into it, there’s a lot of economic development that will happen throughout the cycle of construction,” said Tavish Rai, CEO of Abstract Developments. “But then at the end of the day, we’re really proud to deliver homes to people.”

Rai said he expects the building to be finished around fall 2026, however, construction can be unpredictable and the date could change.
