Construction of a new pedestrian bridge spanning Island Highway will close a section of the Galloping Goose Trail for the next seven months.

From March 26 until Oct. 31, the trail will be closed to pedestrian and cycling traffic between Wale Road and Belmont Bridge.

A detour route will be provided through an informal walking path off the trail onto Belmont Road, Ocean Boulevard and Wale Road, connecting back onto the trail off Wale Road.

The City of Colwood has asked pedestrians and cyclists to follow and obey detour signs and use caution.

To accommodate road paving, Beachlands Boulevard will be closed to public vehicles from Wednesday, March 26 until the end of the day Wednesday, April 2.

Pedestrian access will be maintained during the day to allow anyone on foot to access the beach or beach park via Beachlands Boulevard.

“If work completes ahead of schedule we will reopen earlier,” notes a City of Colwood news release. “Please use caution, follow directions and obey the instructions of on-site personnel.”
