As temperatures rise and the summer sun beats down, The Soup Kitchen is launching Project Cool, a new initiative with the goal of making sure the region's most vulnerable community members stay safe, cool, and cared for.

The initiative aims to provide "summer survival kits" to individuals experiencing homelessness, poverty, or housing instability. Each kit includes carefully selected items to protect against heat and support daily hygiene and nutrition, including reusable water bottles, electrolyte packets, vitamin C supplements, sunscreen, wet wipes and shower wipes, protein bars, a hat and sunglasses, deodorant, and an emergency blanket.

“Summer can be just as dangerous as winter for those living without shelter or reliable access to basic resources,” said Steph Hartwig, volunteer and board member at The Soup Kitchen, in a news release. “With Project Cool, we’re aiming to provide immediate relief and a sense of dignity to the people we serve every day.”
