Masala Roots, a popular Indian food restaurant in Brentwood Bay, is serving its last meal on April 23 after operating for just over a year.
Owner Jagpreet Kaur announced the closure in a social media post on Wednesday (April 2).
"It has been an incredible journey and we are beyond grateful for the love, support and friendships we’ve built over the past year," Kaur wrote. "The warmth of this community has meant so much to us, and we truly appreciate each and every one of you."
The restaurant opened on March 18, 2024, in a strip mall on Verdier Avenue.
Kaur explained that the impending redevelopment of the building prompted the move.
Despite being surprised by the positive community response, the closure was inevitable as all businesses in the strip mall are moving out.
However, the closure isn't a goodbye, but a "new chapter," according to Kaur.
Masala Roots is relocating to 262A Island Highway in View Royal and reopening on April 25.
"We tried our best to find someplace here in Brentwood Bay, but unfortunately, we couldn't find a commercial space available here or anywhere on the Peninsula," Kaur said.
After closing for only one day to set up their new kitchen, the restaurant will resume serving popular dishes, including butter chicken, Rogan Josh and chicken biryani.
Kaur hinted at a potential return to Brentwood Bay in the future.
"We are planning something else for Brentwood Bay; hopefully, in six month's time, we will be back," she said.
Kaur emphasized the amazing support from their customers.
"I cry every time I check Facebook and read everyone's support. My husband and I are overwhelmed by the response, and we are truly grateful for it," she added.
All of Masala Roots' staff will be moving with the restaurant to its new View Royal location.
