Police are investigating after a paper with writing police say “appeared to be hate-motivated” was discovered at the Multifaith Centre at the University of Victoria.

The paper, discovered July 5, was written in both Arabic and English and found attached to the building near Finnerty Gardens that includes 12 different faith communities.

The chapel lies on the Oak Bay side of the campus, so police in that community were called. Saanich police officers, who were already at UVic, supported the investigation.

“The content of the paper was promptly reviewed by a hate-crimes investigator and has also been forwarded to the RCMP's hate crime unit for further analysis and to determine if any other incidents have occurred in other jurisdictions,” the release reads. “The Oak Bay Police Department and the Saanich Police Department take incidents of hate very seriously and we are committed to thoroughly investigating this matter.”

Currently, there are no known suspects.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Oak Bay Police Department at 250-592-2424.
