Museum tours, guided watershed walks, beach cleanups, sea lantern workshops — these are just some of the more than two dozen planned events for Ocean Week Victoria this June.

Events run from June 1 to 9, with more that 25 organizations hosting a variety of activities centred around exploration and ocean literacy.

Ocean Week Victoria is connected to the larger national initiative Ocean Week Canada, as well as international initiatives such as UN World Ocean Day.

The Victoria festival was launched in 2020 to provide a platform for ocean-inspired events on southern Vancouver Island.

First up is a free event at the Gorge Waterway Nature House that includes a guided walk, games, crafts and animal ambassadors. This event runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on June 1.

Then things really kick off with one of the week’s two flagship festivals at Beacon Park in Sidney on June 2.

Programs throughout the week include beach cleanups, pub trivia, paddling activities and educational activities.

Closing festivities are on June 9 as Fisherman’s Wharf in Victoria.
