The Ministry of Transportation is currently working on resurfacing sections of Highway 17; work begins in the evening.

Motorists travelling on the Pat Bay (Highway 17) between Wain Road and McTavish Road can expect evening lane closures as paving work continues until August, according to the Ministry of Transportation.

The resurfacing project, which started on July 14, involves grinding off the old asphalt and laying down a fresh layer.

In some areas, crews are addressing deeper sections requiring repair before the new pavement is applied.

The ministry stated that the work is necessary due to the asphalt's age and need for replacement.

On the northbound lanes, work takes place Sunday to Friday from 7:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m., while southbound lanes will be affected Sunday to Friday from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m.

Aside from localized work within the Keating Flyover project area, no other sections of Highway 17 are currently scheduled for resurfacing this year.

Drivers heading to Swartz Bay ferry terminal or Victoria International Airport are advised to plan ahead to avoid delays.

The ministry is urging drivers to exercise caution and be aware of changed traffic patterns during these designated paving times to ensure safety.
