PHOTOS: Thousands turn out for Remembrance Day ceremony in Victoria

With Belleville Street filled with young cadets and older service members, residents and visitors flocked to the cenotaph outside the legislature on the morning of Nov. 11.

After the playing of Last Post and lowering of the flag, thousands stood silent for two minutes, broken by the bugler's reveille, bagpipes and a fly-past as cannons boomed in the distance from nearby CFB Esquimalt.

The bronze war memorial at the corner of Belleville and Government streets commemorates the Canadians who lost their lives in the First World War, Second World War, the Korean War, and the Afghanistan Mission.
