Two more drivers face hefty fines and impounded vehicles after excessive speed stops on Beach Drive in Oak Bay.
Both stops saw men ticketed for speeding through the 900-block of Beach Drive, Oak Bay Police Department said in its weekly news release.
On May 22, around 9:15 p.m., an officer on patrol saw a driver cruising through at 110 km/h in a posted 40 km/h zone.
The 29-year-old man driving was ticketed for excessive speeding, and the vehicle was impounded for seven days
The next evening, just before 8, an officer stopped a motorcyclist – again northbound – after clocking the vehicle at 103 km/h, well in excess of the posted 40 km/h speed limit. The 26-year-old man driving was issued a ticket for excessive speed and the motorcycle was impounded for seven days.
Under the Motor Vehicle Act, drivers going more than 40 km/h over the posted speed limit face a $368 ticket, three penalty points on their driving record, which impacts insurance costs, and a mandatory seven-day vehicle impound where fees also accrue.
The same block of Beach saw two men issued similar tickets earlier in the month. On May 12, a 19-year-old motorcycle driver was clocked at 145 km/h, and a week later, an 18-year-old was ticketed for going 98. Both vehicles were impounded.
