The Township of Esquimalt is moving forward with public engagement as they work to launch the second phase of active transportation planning along Esquimalt Road, between the Joffre Street and Canteen Road intersections.
This project is part of the township's new Active Transportation Network Plan, which looks to create a 5.3-kilometre bike-friendly network on Tillicum Road, Lampson Street, and Esquimalt Road with the goal of improving walking and biking experiences for Esquimalt residents.
Public engagement on the first phase of the project, which was held in September, looked at Esquimalt Road from Dominion Road to the Joffre Street intersections.
Residents and local businesses are being asked to give feedback on conceptual plans, which are set to be published on Nov. 21, and let project planners know if the designs meet their expectations of an improved active transportation network.
"The conceptual plans will look at designs along Esquimalt Road as well as alternative routes in the corridor. Part of the project includes upgrading underground infrastructure along the Esquimalt Road construction routes," noted a news release from the township.
There will be two drop-in open houses that will allow residents and businesses to speak with project planners on Nov. 28 from 4 to 7 p.m. and Jan. 16 from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Esquimalt Recreation Centre. Design concepts and a survey are available at engagingesquimalt.ca/esquimaltroad. The survey will be open until Jan. 27.
