Intermittent road closures are fast becoming a way of life for residents near Cadboro Bay.
Closures amped up the last half of November, with storm and sanitary water main installation expected to finish by Friday (Nov. 29). Closures included Sinclair Road from Finnerty to Hobbs during working hours, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. and a full closure from Cadboro Bay Heights Lane to 2525 Sinclair for three days ending Friday.
Saanich told drivers to use an alternate route to access Cadboro Bay Road and the village – suggesting Finnerty, Arbutus, Cedar Hill X Road, Cadboro Bay Road and Hobbs Street.
The plan includes separated sidewalks on both sides of Sinclair Road, with three added crossings with flashing lights for pedestrians and tactile walking strip indicators for those with visual impairment. There will also be separated cycling lanes on both sides and a raised roundabout where Sinclair meets Cadboro Bay Road.
The $15-million project also includes new storm, sewer and freshwater infrastructure. Construction is anticipated to take 18 months to two years with interruptions including noise and road closures. It's expected to finish in spring 2026.
Businesses in the village remain open, with the district promising contractors are mandated to maintain access. However, two shops have already cited the construction and final product as part of their decision to close.
