The Greater Victoria School District and the municipality of Saanich are hosting an open house at Tillicum Elementary School on March 11 to gather public feedback on a proposed outdoor landscape design to address climate change.

The proposed plan includes native tree planting, rain gardens, and an outdoor classroom, pending funding. The project is part of the Tillicum Green Infrastructure Project, which aims to increase tree canopy cover and mitigate the impacts of extreme heat and rainfall in the Tillicum-Burnside area.

Attendees will learn about the role of Indigenous plants, the benefits of green infrastructure, and future engagement opportunities, such as a land blessing and student learning initiatives.

The drop-in event will run from 4 to 6 p.m. in the school’s gymnasium (3155 Albina St.). For those unable to attend, an online survey will be open from March 11 (7 p.m.) to April 8 (4 p.m.) via forms.office.com/r/U18CmCR0dK.
