Saanich gets to work on 2-year road improvement project for Cadboro Bay

Road closures, traffic impacts start for Sinclair Road improvements

The intersection of Cadboro Bay Road and Sinclair Road will be getting a major facelift.

Drivers should bring patience when heading for Cadboro Bay as up to two years of road improvements are well underway.

With vocal support of both residents and businesses, long-awaited upgrades will see separated sidewalks on both sides of Sinclair Road, with three added crossings with flashing lights for pedestrians and tactile walking strip indicators for those with visual impairment. There will also be separated cycling lanes on both sides and a raised roundabout where Sinclair meets Cadboro Bay Road.

Landscaping, lighting and bus stop relocations round out the improvements.

The $15-million project also includes storm, sewer and freshwater infrastructure replacement in the area.

Inconveniences are expected during construction, anticipated between 18 months and two years, including noise and road closures with access available to local traffic only.

Contractors are expected to ensure there is always a safe pedestrian access and that residents can access their properties, the district said.

“We expect that businesses will be able to operate as normal and that there will not be any direct impacts to the services they provide.”
